BEAM CAMP: CARPENTRY INSTRUCTION
During the summers of 2022 and 2023, I worked full-time as one of two Carpentry Specialists at Beam Camp, a design and fabrication focused summer camp in Strafford, New Hampshire.
My coworker Kieran Pierre and I were responsible for maintaining and running an outdoor wood shop, stocked with a table saw, a band saw, miter saws, scroll saws, a drill press, a belt sander, drills, impact drivers, and a wide variety of hand tools and hardware.
We provided staff and campers (ages eight to seventeen) with comprehensive carpentry and design instruction, teaching them to safely and effectively use the tools in the wood shop. Around 100 campers in total chose to design and build independent projects in the wood shop. We helped them create formal design plans, and mentored them through the process of making their designs reality. These designs ranged from dioramas to functional furniture pieces.
The gallery below displays camper-designed projects that I helped facilitate and execute.
